Northern/Central Valley Homeless Roundtable

Goal

The Northern/Central Valley Homeless Roundtable is led by leadersin homeless continuums of care in the California Northern and Central Valley communitie. The Roundtable's goal is to create regular opportunities for homeless continua participants to foster an exchange of information and to build community between continuum communities.

 

History

April 29, 2004 Maidu Community Center - Roseville, CA

The Placer Consortium on Homelessness and Affordable Housing (PCOH) hosts the first Homeless Roundtable. How to develop local homeless policy is the meeting's focus.

July 29, 2004 Woodland Public Library - Woodland, CA

The Yolo County Homeless Coalition hosts the second Homeless Roundtable at the Woodland Public Library in Woodland. The Housing First model to provide permanent supportive housing to homeless individuals and families is the topic.

October 26, 2004 Sierra Health Foundation - Sacramento, CA

Dr. Stephen Mayberg, Director, California Deartment of Mental Health, presents "Discharge Planning to Prevent Homelessness: The Mental Health System" at the third Homeless Roundtable with the Sacramento County & Cities Board on Homelessness as host.

February 24, 2005 Elks Lodge - Sacramento, CA

Discharge PLanning to Prevent Homelessness: The Local Corrections System is the focus of a panel presentation. Hosts HUD Sacramento and California Department of Housing and Community Development's Homeless Programs present on their programs which address homelessness.

May 5, 2005 Southside Community Center - Oroville, CA

The Greater Chico Homeless Task Force/Butte Continuum of Care hosts the meeting with presentations about 10 Year Plans to End Chronic Homelessness, Proposition 63 Mental Health Funds and Homeless Counts. The main topic for the day is The Housing First model. While Housing First is a good idea, how do continuums implement the model in their communities?

July 28, 2005 United Methodist Church of Merced Social Hall - Merced, CA

The Merced Continuum of Care CollaborativeHosted by Merced Continuum of Care Collaborative hosts the meeting focused on the methodology Continua utilized to count unsheltered and sheltered homeless people, and the results of the counts, and on Engaging Local Law Enforcement to Actively Participate in the local continuum by Pam Esparza, Turning Point Community Programs and Officer Bruce Baldwin, Modesto Police Department; and by Lt. Cara Westin, Sacramento Police Department.
